These trees are a common sight in the high desert of eastern Oregon, southwestern Idaho and northeastern California. Western Juniper Heartwood is highly durable and has aromatic properties similar to Red cedar. The color of this wood varies from milky white to deep reddish - brown and is quite hard for "softwood".
